Housing Families Inc. Sells First Raffle Ticket to Mayor Thomas M....

Housing Families Inc., formerly known as Tri-City Family Housing, kick started the October Children's Campaign with a Lexus ES 330 car raffle.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino shared his support for the October Children's initiative by purchasing the first $100 ticket at City Hall Plaza at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005. At the event, Mayor Menino spoke about his support towards Housing Families Inc. and his concern for homelessness in our community.

Judy Perlman, CEO of Housing Families Inc., said, "It is crucial for us to have the support of Mayor Menino. Last year 27% of the 122 families we served in our shelters reported their last address as being in Boston."

The Lexus raffle for the October Children's Campaign is for a two year, 15,000 miles per year, lease of a Lexus ES 330 or a $10,000 cash prize. The Lexus ES 330 will be on display in front of Boston City Hall from October 17 - 19, at Rowes Wharf on October 21, and at The Prudential Center on October 20, and from October 24 - 27. The Lexus ES 330 tickets are on sale for $100 and the final drawing will take place on October 27, 2005. The car raffle is possible, thanks to the generosity of Lexus of Norwood, an Herb Chambers dealership. There are only 500 tickets available, so it is important to act fast, not only participate in this raffle, but also to reach out into the community and help homeless children and their families.

Through the October Children's Campaign, Housing Families Inc., reaches out to all of its friends, neighbors and colleagues in the metro north cities and towns to raise awareness and funds to support after school programs for homeless children. Additional initiatives that are part of the campaign include a faith based outreach, and a coin drive. The funds raised by all these initiatives will help support Housing Families Inc. as it continues to provide shelter, housing and supportive services to homeless and low-income families in Greater Boston, as it has since 1986.

Housing Families Inc. (formerly known as Tri-City Family Housing, Inc.) was founded in 1986 by community members concerned about the growing crisis of homelessness among families in the cities of Everett, Malden, and Medford. Since then Housing Families Inc. has grown into one of the largest providers of family shelter in Massachusetts. Over 1,300 families have been helped since we first opened our doors. The agency's central mission is to help families build the skills and understanding they need to make a successful transition into their own home, and to prevent any recurrence of homelessness. Mayor Thomas M. Menino is currently serving his third term as the mayor of the city of Boston, Massachusetts. During his tenure as Mayor of Boston, in the summer of 2004, Mayor Menino brought the Democratic National Convention to Boston. Estimates put the economic contribution of the convention at more than $150 million dollars and its positive effects will be felt for years. As President of the United States Conference of Mayors from 2002-2003, Mayor Menino championed homeland security and housing availability. He was also an advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation from 1988 to 1997. Prior to his first election in 1993, Mayor Menino previously served four months as Acting Mayor and nine years as a District City Councilor from Boston s Hyde Park neighborhood.
