Local Women'ss Golf Event Raises Money for Women Students at West Chester University

Chester County Business Leaders in the Community (CCBLC) hosts its Women'ss Only Golf Outing (WOGO! 2009) to raise money for scholarships for women students at West Chester University. $1,000 scholarships are given out each semester to support a woman majoring in the sciences or business at the local university.

Kennett Square, PA June 29 2009 -- The Chester County Business Leaders in the Community (CCBLC), a satellite group of Chester County Women, hosts its annual Women'ss Only Golf Outing (WOGO! 2009) at Chisel Creek Golf Club in Landenberg PA July 10 2009. All profits raised from the event go to the West Chester University (WCU) Foundation'ss M.M. Power Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was started in 2007 by Bronwyn Martin, a WCU MBA alumnus, who believes in the power of education and understands the importance of education especially for women, worldwide. Martin, who also holds a doctorate degree, seems to understand that.

The scholarships are available each semester to a woman majoring in the sciences or business at WCU. The woman must hold a certain GPA and demonstrate financial need. Many times a student doesn'st realize the actual cost of borrowing money until they'sve graduated. So, these scholarships can help alleviate both the cost of education and the stress of borrowing money for education.

CCBLC is a local group of women that meets bimonthly in southern Chester County. CCBLC is a satellite group of Chester County Women which Martin began in 2003. The Greater Philadelphia Business Leaders in the Community (GPBLC), another satellite group of CCW, meets bimonthly in Philadelphia and also has a Women and Money program. Martin has been a financial advisor for 9 years and is a franchisee owner with Ameriprise Financial Inc. She is also a recipient of the 2008 PA Best Women in Business award.

There is still room to join the WOGO!2009 event: all levels of golfer are required because this isn'st about the golf score but the goal of raising money, having fun, and meeting other women who believe in the group power of benefiting others. A golf clinic is 7:45 am. followed by a shot gun start at 9:00 am; a networking lunch follows. The cost is $125 for: cart, greens fees, lunch, beverage cart, golf clinic. There is no silent auction. Visit www.chestercountywomen.com to download the form to register.
