January 22, 2005 -- The 600 students of Patriot Elementary School at Ft. Carson have taken it upon themselves to find ways to help the victims of the December 26th tsunami. When they
heard about how VisionTrust International, a local charity that works with impoverished children in third-world countries, had begun distributing Tsunami Survival Kits in Chennai, India,
one of the coastal cities that received major damage from the recent killer tsunami, they wanted to buy as many Survival Kits as possible.
The students, from pre-school to 5th grade, raised the money on their own, one penny at a time. The full amount for their unselfish efforts totaled $3,500.00. The parents of the school
children are either in Iraq or on their way there.
The children of Patriot Elementary School will make the presentation of the check this Friday, January 21st at a student assembly at 1:15pm in the auditorium of Patriot Elementary to Gary
VanDyke, VisionTrust's Director of Development.
VisionTrust International is greatly impressed by the children's concern for the victims of the tsunami, even though the war in Iraq could have monopolized their entire focus. Their
selfless generosity is an inspiration to us all.
VisionTrust staff members in Chennai are distributing survival kits containing much needed supplies to the residents in ravaged coastal communities. The survival kits contain various
supplies that will help ease the burden of the tragedy and meet basic immediate needs like food, water, tents, cooking stoves, matches, cooking utensils, clothing, and assistance
information. Donations to help purchase Survival Kits have been coming in to the VisionTrust local World Headquarters from as far away as Canada.
Chennai is located on the southeastern side of India, on the Bay of Bengal, directly west from the epicenter of Sunday's earthquake. Being directly in the path of the resulting giant
tsunami, Chennai has incurred massive damage and loss of life.
Tax-deductible donations to supply Tsunami Survival Kits to the victims of the killer tsunami in Chennai, India can be made by calling VisionTrust World Headquarters in Colorado Springs

VisionTrust International, a 501(C)3, non-profit charity, has 87 projects in 3 countries impacted by the recent tsunami; India, Myanmar, and Thailand. So far, they have received no
reports of deaths to the children in their programs; however, the risk of tsunami-caused water-borne communicable disease is a growing concern in the affected areas. VisionTrust
International encourages sponsors of children in the areas hit by the tsunami to continue to pray for the children and the relief efforts.
VisionTrust's mission is to develop orphaned and neglected children into mature Christian adults in their own country. We do this by enabling nationals within the country to meet the
children's physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs. We are currently working with orphanages, learning centers, schools, medical clinics, and short-term mission
opportunities at their ministry projects throughout the world. We are providing the children with food, clothing, medical attention, education, school uniforms, school supplies and
textbooks. VisionTrust International is funded by donations from the public and by those who sponsor the children.
