Napa, CA May 27, 2009 -- The Napa Valley affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will host its seventh annual Walk Through the Vineyards to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. The event will take place at the St. Supery Vineyards and Winery in Napa Valley on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can register online at http://www.vineyardwalk.com.

The Walk Through the Vineyards is a wonderful way for people to enjoy the beauty of the Napa Valley while supporting a very important cause, said Michelle Monhart, chair of this year'ss event. We encourage everyone to come out and have a fun time. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States and the most lethal with a 5-year survival rate of only 5%. Despite the staggering statistics, pancreatic cancer research has consistently received the lowest level of federal funding among leading cancer killers.

Registration fees for the Walk Through the Vineyards are $30 for adults, $15 for children 15 and under, and free for pancreatic cancer survivors. This year'ss 3K walk includes breakfast, entertainment and wine tasting along the way. There will also be a silent auction going on throughout the event. Auction highlights include a round of golf for four at Chardonnay Golf Club, two bottles of specially labeled U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson 2006 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon with an American flag that was flown over the Capital, lunch and wine tasting for four with winemaker Chris Loxton of Loxton Cellars, and other amazing items donated by local supporters.

For additional information on participating or sponsorship opportunities, contact event chair Michelle Monhart at mmonhart(at)pancanvolunteer(dot)org. More information about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Napa Valley affiliate'ss mission is available at www.pancan.org.

About the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization raises money for direct private funding of research--and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network fills the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers reliable, personalized information they need to make informed decisions. We create a sense of hope and community so no one has to face pancreatic cancer alone. The organization helps support individuals and communities all across the country work together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
