Having completed a consulting project as part of a directed study at Boston University, the founders of The Caritas Collective wondered why it was so difficult to find and work a consulting engagement outside of academia and decided they could change the educational experiences of hundreds of students by removing this constraint.
The Caritas Collective -- born out of this experience -- is a pro bono consulting company that links the strategic needs of the not-for-profit world with highly qualified management
students hoping to shorten the cycle between learning and applying. Having realized that not-for-profits number well over one hundred in the small city of Boston, Andrew Smolenski,
Stephanie Antoniou and Christopher Oquist aim to create valuable insights for non-profit organizations to accomplish their strategic goals by leveraging students's time and expertise. The
founders of The Caritas Collective seek to empower the students of Boston with the responsibility to create sustainable solutions for those philanthropic organizations that often struggle
more than their for-profit counterparts, particularly during these economic times.
Says Andrew Smolenski, Founding Partner and Vice-President, The need for a bridge between growing organizations promoting good and the lack of student avenues for pursuing an interest in
strategic development needed to be filled in an organized and controlled manner. We hope to watch the interactions between our teams grow into cautiously devised strategic solutions that
can be implemented by both start-up and established non-profit organizations alike.
The Caritas Collective grows out of a shared desire to reach out to those institutes improving human lives and a commitment to offer students the opportunity to develop their education
outside the classroom in an environment concentrated in pure strategic thinking and turning that thinking into action. Sourcing the knowledge of students and using their energy to help
non-profits be more effective creates a new economy of ideas, resources, and skills, says Stephanie Antoniou, the co-founder and President of The Caritas Collective. The goal is to help
non-profits impact their communities more efficiently.
The initiative launched in January with a four-member team'ss commencement on an engagement with Seven Stones International -- a non-profit working to reduce ethnic intolerance and racial
discrimination in the Ukraine. Two other engagements with leading non-profits have since begun. The ultimate goal is to help philanthropic organizations expand or rethink fundraising
strategies, determine appropriate entry strategies for new markets, design outreach programs for new target segments, increase causal awareness, revitalize organizational structure to
maximize effectiveness and to cut bottom-line costs.
