Two Cambridge Boutiques Move to Harvard Square

Hoping to bring back some of that old Harvard Square feel, two Cambridge boutiques are hiking up their skirts and moving in. Both Looks, which is moving to 11-13 Holyoke Street, and Topaz, which is moving to 11 Dunster Street, cater to a specialized audience of women with a taste for stylish clothing and jewelry and chic trinkets.

Looks has been a neighborhood favorite for over 25 years, beginning in Harvard Square in 1983 and moving to its 1607 Mass Ave location in 1990. Its loyal clientele is made of professional women and students who know where to shop for refined specialty clothing, lovely adornments and excellent customer service.

Opening its Cambridge doors in 2002, Topaz Boutique was started by two friends who wanted to create a unique alternative to the mainstream world of traditional gold and diamond jewelry. They succeeded and the result is a colorful playground of the abstract and the familiar, artisan baubles, clothing, and accessories made for women of all ages and lifestyles with a taste for the elegant and the offbeat.

Both boutiques close at their current locations mid to late August and re-open their doors in Harvard Square Labor Day Weekend. In a nod to neighborhood solidarity and building upon each store's established commitment to community, Topaz and Looks will host a tandem all-day charity event Saturday, September 6, 2008. Each store will give 10% of sales to Girls' LEAP Self-Defense, Inc, which trains at-risk girls aged 8-18 in verbal and physical safety skills and self-awareness.
