Hasheem Thabeet, the seven-footer University of Connecticut basketball center is counting down the days. The 2009 NBA Draft prospect has a particular near-term date in mind but it may not be the one everyone thinks it is. The Dar es Salaam native will address a distinguished guest list in Washington DC on May 22. The occasion is the DC-based event, 'sA Taste of the Potomac in the Nation'ss Capital's. Anticipation has been building for the event, which will culminate in a ceremonious gift of innovative and lifesaving water technology to Hasheem Thabeet'ss native homeland of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The technology is a mobile delivery system, perfected for the Water For Life Global Foundation (http://www.waterforlifeglobal.org), and is
designed to purify any unclean water source into refreshing and usable water. Originally intended for rapid deployment to populations in crisis, the trailer-mounted SOS Mobile Water
Treatment Plants will eliminate all pathogens, viruses and bacteria from even the most stagnant of water sources.
I am honored to participate in the Water For Life Global Foundation. As a native of Tanzania, I understand the struggles we have with clean, safe drinking water. This SOS filtration
system will save lives, said Thabeet in a brief interview.
With an operating cost of pennies per gallon of fresh water produced, the SOS Mobile Water Treatment Plants have clear application in areas of the world like Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in
Africa where people have been known to travel several hours per day to gain access to potable water.
The Water For Life Global Foundation is about saving lives globally through clean, safe water and we are glad that Hasheem is able to be a part of this event, shares Thabeet'ss sports
manager, Ugo Udezue.
On the evening of May 22 at the DC waterfront, Hasheem Thabeet will share personal insights and reflections of his Tanzanian homeland. The invitation-only crowd will see a demonstration
of the technology and also get the opportunity to sample Potomac River water that has been decontaminated and cleansed by one of Water For Life Global'ss flagship water treatment units.
