As of June 18th, 2007, the newly released NERC requirements for the 693 rules and the proposed CIP rules have forced more than 1,800 power plants in the United States, Mexico and Canada to become compliance in order to protect the critical infrastructure of the power grid. These compliance requirements have more "teeth" than HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley & PCI combined. Fines of up to one million dollars per day, per incident are not only being levied, but they are being enforced.
