On April 30th, Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) won first place in the annual Utah Innovation Awards. Each year a committee comprised of Utah professionals in many technology fields selects winners, finalists, and honorable mentions for the innovation award. This year a record 131 entrants in nine categories competed for the awards.
SES was selected the winner in the Clean Technology and Energy Category for a process that separates CO2 from flue (exhaust) gases more cost effectively and uses significantly less energy
than alternatives. The technology being commercialized by SES is licensed from the Fulton College of Engineering and Technology at Brigham Young University.
Many scientists believe CO2 emission is among the world'ss most significant technical challenges. The SES technology represents a direct response to this challenge, said Brent Webb,
associate academic vice president for research and graduate studies at BYU. This innovative technology solution has the potential to greatly reduce the energy and economic impacts of
addressing CO2 emissions from all combustion systems compared to alternative systems. We are pleased to have it recognized by the Utah Innovation Award sponsor and technical
professionals.
About Sustainable Energy Solutions
Founded in 2008, Sustainable Energy Solutions (sustainablees.com) addresses global and regional problems within the energy industry. The company was inspired by a technology developed by
Dr. Larry Baxter, professor of chemical engineering at Brigham Young University, which deals with the capture and storage of CO2. Since this technology, SES has filed several other
patents on new, innovative technologies.
Sustainable Energy Solutions is currently discussing the development of commercial-scale demonstrations of their carbon capture technology with many of the industry'ss leaders. We'sre
very excited about winning the Utah Innovation Award, explains Jacob Jones, VP of Strategy at SES. It validates the real potential of this technology--to revolutionize the way the energy
industry interacts with the environment by providing a viable solution for controlling CO2 emissions.
