The Thread of Ariadne The Sword of Consciousness The TOA Named a Finalist...

On Jan 15, 2008, The Thread of Ariadne-The Sword of Consciousness, (Hardback, ISBN: 978-1-59526-826-6, Llumina Press 2007) was nominated for the Eric Hoffer Awards. On March 2008, this work was selected as one of the eight finalists for the Montaigne Medal by the Book Award committee. The Thread of Ariadne or The TOA for sort is the first book authored by George Sopasakis. It is a philosophical treatise dealing with the subject of consciousness and the elusive conscious control of reality. It comes to certain bold groundbreaking conclusions challenging fundamental concepts about human existence.

The TOA tangles some great questions and inspires the reader. It nets a wide assortment of food for thought, from definitions about time and consciousness to a very surprising mind-boggling connection embedded in the story lines of the myths of Theseus with the Minotaur, Gilgamesh with the Bull of Heaven and Jesus with Satan.

"I am very excited to have The TOA recognized through this special award by a committee that honors the memory of the great American social writer Eric Hoffer, the working man's philosopher," said Mr. Sopasakis. "My intention was to write a book that could bring some needed clarity to the subject of consciousness and write it in a manner that could be absorbed and understood by anyone and not just by the intellectually gifted among us."

Awarded yearly, the Montaigne Medal was introduced in 2008 to give special recognition to the most thought-provoking titles. These are empowering books that either illuminate, progress, or redirect thought. The Montaigne Medal is given in honor of the great French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, who influenced people such as Shakespeare, Descartes, Nietzsche and Eric Hoffer among many others.

"The Montaigne Medal is an integral part of the annual Hoffer Awards for books and prose," said Christopher Klim, award winning author and Chair of the Eric Hoffer Awards.

The Eric Hoffer Award for short prose and books was established at the start of the 21st century as a means of opening a door to writing of significant merit, to honor freethinking writers and independent books and serve as a platform for and the champion of the independent voice. Recent recipients include books authored by E. L. Doctorow, Ernest Hemingway and others.
