birdPod Now Available for Both Western and Eastern Bird Songs and Playing on New iPod Models
birdPod, the extensive collection of bird songs for use on the Apple iPod, is now available for both Western and Eastern birds. More than 650 species of North American bird songs are organized for easy access on most iPod models including the popular Nano and other new models released in Fall 2005.
For simplified and quick bird identification, birdPod uses iTunes to organize the bird songs into 75 comprehensive playlists, each species on a separate track. Habitat and family group playlists of bird sounds include forest, marsh, urban, wetlands, shorebirds, sparrows, warblers and many others. birdPod display options include scientific names, bird song descriptions (mnemonics), as well as English, French and many Spanish names.
Lang Elliott, creator of the Stokes Field Guide to Eastern Bird Songs, said "Accessing a comprehensive bird song library using the iPod is revolutionary. It is way more convenient than dealing with multiple CDs 8212;there's really no comparison. It is so easy and so incredibly useful."
For easy co-existence with music collections, a prefix can be assigned so that all bird songs sort to the beginning or end of the Album and Artists lists on an iPod.
birdPod Version 1.2.1 is available now for Mac OS X. A Windows version of the bird sounds will be available soon. Additional gadgets and advice for effectively using birdPod in the field and for study are available at www.ibirdpod.com. birdPod uses the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs, Eastern and Western Regions, for its bird song collection. birdPod is developed and distributed by MightyPods.
