Eastern Mountain Sports Launches Outdoor Sports Podcast Blue Pizza



Outdoor sports gear retailer Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) has teamed up with podcast production company Pwop Productions (pwop.com) to serve up Blue Pizza (bluepizza.ems.com), a podcast focusing on outdoor sports. The first show centers around an interview with noted climber Ivan Greene. Lawrence Ryan, an avid outdoor sportsman and member of the Screen Actors Guild, hosts the show.



Pwop produces podcasts for companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Filemaker, as well as a handful of their own weekly shows. EMS is Pwop'ss second full-service client, and may be publishing Blue Pizza on a regular basis.



We (EMS) committed to producing 3 podcasts to test the waters. Already we'sre seeing a growing listener base coupled with consistently positive feedback. We'sre now preparing a process to support regularly scheduled shows, 2 per month. said Chris Stephenson who works as an IT Solutions Analyst at 'sEMS Basecamp's in Peterborough, NH.



We knew the audience we were trying to target and Pwop knew the technology. Together we consolidated a flood of ideas down to a show about outdoor athletes who push their sports to new levels. We lined up our first athlete and Pwop ran with it. They take care of the recordings, editing, intro music, etc. They also designed a slick Web site to host the show, drive our monthly giveaways, and archive past shows. We'sre the content experts and they'sre the technology solution. explained Stephenson.



Carl Franklin, podcaster and CEO of Pwop Productions cited Blue Pizza as a sign of things to come. EMS is a great example of a mainstream business waking up to the power of podcasting. For about the same price as a mailing, they can produce an attractive show that will keep their customers and potential customers engaged with their brand. he said.



Franklin believes that the RSS features in the nascent Internet Explorer 7.0 will help bring podcasting to mainstream Internet users, increasing accessibility in the same way that Apple did last year by adding podcasting support to iTunes. iTunes brought podcasts to young hip iPod users. IE7 will bring podcasting to the professional world, expanding the listener base even more, Franklin said.
