Larimer County Horsemen'ss Association Organizes Trail Maintenance Day in Conjunction with National Trails Day June 3, 2006

The Larimer County Horsemen'ss Association (LCHA) has organized a day of trail maintenance activities for June 3, 2006 in conjunction with National Trails Day. The LCHA will perform maintenance on the Lion Gulch Trail on U.S. Route 36, between Lyons and Estes Park, approximately three miles northwest of Pinewood Springs.


Fort Collins, CO June 1, 2006 -- The Larimer County Horsemen'ss Association (LCHA) has organized a day of trail maintenance activities for June 3, 2006 in conjunction with the 14th year of the American Hiking Society'ss National Trails Day, now in its 14th year. The LCHA will perform maintenance on the Lion Gulch Trail on U.S. Route 36, between Lyons and Estes Park, approximately three miles northwest of Pinewood Springs.



Equestrian land conservation resource (ELCR) has organized Trail Trotters's Day in conjunction with National Trails Day, to encourage equine trail users to come out and work on the same day that hikers, bicyclists and other trail users devote to maintaining trails across the nation. The event is intended to help demonstrate the commitment of horse lovers to act as responsible stewards of the trails they ride.



The trail maintenance is part of the LCHA'ss ongoing program where members maintain trails for use by horsemen and other users. LCHA has adopted this three mile trail for more than 10 years, and performs maintenance at least three times a year on the trail. The organization has also adopted the Mill Creek Trail in Horsetooth Mountain Park Larimer County Parks and Open Lands and the Devil's8217;s Backbone trail, both of which are under the jurisdiction of Larimer County Parks and Open Lands. LCHA membership also performs maintenance on these trails at least three times a year.

Seeking to promote trail improvements and better access to trails, Larimer County Horseman's8217;s Association (LCHA) takes a proactive stance toward land managers responsible for public lands. To remain responsible partners to these managers, LCHA regularly consults with the US Forest Service, Larimer County Parks and Open Lands, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife concerning new trail construction, trail improvements, and increased access to trails. LCHA maintains three Larimer County trails at least three times each year, working from morning until midafternoon to keep the tread in good condition and the corridor clear. Thus the trail remains safe, and accessible, for all users. We have trail crew leaders trained by the US Forest Service. We have fun. We accept members and non-members on trail crews.
