Dedicated to the Last Lecturer Randy Pausch A Universe of Interactions

Book Distribution Source (http://www.lulu.com/content/1333571)

Written and edited by former students of Professor Dr. Randy Pausch, this book conveys the history and rhetoric of Interaction Design (IxD) as a science, not a form of design explicitly, manifesting 10 years of research and application of the newest school of science. In this text, the author pontificates on life, science, bureaucracy, inadequacies of modern scientific thought and offers insight into the basic needs of humanity to advance itself in the cosmos. Designed to be read by everyone, the book explores contemporary issues in the Wikinomic business model, with interesting anecdotes to support scientific assertions about interactivity, interaction and the universe.

Originally dedicated to Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the book explores the modern notion of exploitation in content-distribution, touching on topics from physics to Hollywood while offering solutions to the problems inherent to government, capitalism, research, philosophy, art, science and technology.

"Randy was a great person -- not the only one of our time, but certainly charismatically unique -- and he will be missed. I hope this book helps shed some light on his field and my own intentions to explore creativity and interdisciplinary study as the root of innovation." -- author, H. Elwood

Herbert Elwood Gilliland III created the YouTube brand while working for ETC co-founder Don Marinelli during the summer of 1998. He works as a scientist, currently researching advanced medical software technologies for computer-assisted diagnosis of cancer at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). In the past, Gilliland has provided original research to companies such as Monolith Studios, Electronic Arts, Google and Microsoft. He has also worked for biotech companies like Medrad, Respironics and Capital Technologies, a bio-fuel firm.

Editor iva Borlja is a digital media artist based in Philadelphia, PA. He and Gilliland have been working on the book since 2005.

"I told my friend at Facebook about the book. She says she's considering buying a copy, 'I mean, he invented YouTube!'," offers iva, who edited the book.

"To study the universe is to study process. A student gains the knowledge to apply and augment process through experimentation, verification and optimization. This creates a complex discipline of theory which combines both traditional science and the broader topic of the known universe." -- "A Universe of Interactions", back cover, 2008
