San Diego, CA January 3, 2009 -- MonsterPreps.com (http://www.monsterpreps.com/main/pr.htm), a web-based college sports recruiting community focused on initiating and developing relationships between high school athletes and college coaches, is announcing its January 1 launch. The site is geared toward helping college-bound athletes move through the recruiting process by easing the decision making and athlete discovery process for coaches and recruiting coordinators.
MonsterPreps will create a niche within the high school athletics recruiting market by combining elements of several online social networks like MySpace and Facebook, and home video
sharing websites such as YouTube. It is a viable alternative for serious high school athletes to get their name out to college coaches without having to bear the financial burden of
expensive recruiting services, said Jeff Smith, co-owner and founder of MonsterPreps.
The site focuses primarily on presenting game and training highlights (http://www.monsterpreps.com/videos.htm) to coaches and
recruiting coordinators at both four-year universities and community colleges. Unlimited video footage and image uploads for all registered athletes will create an abundant resource for
college coaches to discover and rate high school athletes. Communication between coaches and athletes is achieved through sending messages and displaying upcoming games and events,
similar to the friend system used on many social network sites. PrepConnect, a valuable athlete-coach matching tool automatically notifies coaches of athletes who have specific abilities
and traits. The service will be offered upon the registration of a MonsterPreps account, starting in spring 2009.
MonsterPreps is unique in offering its services to a wide variety of athletes. From football (http://www.monsterpreps.com/sports/football.htm) to surfing, the site currently offers 28 different sports for both men and women
seeking an opportunity to move on to the next level. It helps students striving to play NCAA sports, as well as those seeking sponsorship from surfing, snowboarding, and motocross
companies.
MonsterPreps will integrate the general public through the use of fan accounts (http://www.monsterpreps.com/register.htm). Anyone
can register as a fan to give themselves the ability to rate athletes and comment on videos to create buzz for deserving players. As the fans are an important group in our community, a
user-friendly design plays a huge role in the appeal of the website, said Chris Smith, founder and co-owner. We did our best to mimic concepts seen in popular social network sites such as
the profile layout of Facebook and the video display of YouTube, as most of our users are extremely comfortable with these two sites.
A majority of recruiting companies have hefty price tags and require submission of an application just to be evaluated by an associate. MonsterPreps refuses no athlete and provides its
services free of charge.
According to a study published on NCAA.com Nicole Bracken, assistant director of research, found that a mere 5.7% of high school football seniors and 3.0% of men'ss basketball seniors
will go on to play for an NCAA university. A much smaller percentage of these athletes receive scholarships. These numbers are valuable pieces of information for the parents of
college-bound athletes to become familiar with in order to assist them in making cost effective decisions during their teen-athlete'ss recruiting campaign, said Jeff Smith.
In light of the recent economic hardship being felt by millions of Americans, an effective and viable alternative to more expensive recruiting services is needed. Beginning in January,
MonsterPreps will be a valuable player in fulfilling these needs through unprecedented and cost-effective recruiting services.
