Turtle Wings Gets New Shell

To slow global warming, Turtle Wings (http://www.turtlewings.com), an environmental services company, has begun the process of painting the roofs of their two company-owned warehouses a reflective white color. Climate scientists hypothesize that the reflective properties of the color white, if applied on enough rooftops around the world, may assist in slowing global warming. According to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, cool roofs are rooftops painted white or a light color, and are designed to reduce energy bills and mitigate climate change by reflecting sunlight back towards space.

Personally and professionally, I have always been very concerned with doing my part to save the earth, which is why I founded Turtle Wings. Our trademarked motto is 'sThe Earth Matters's and we do everything we can to reduce our total carbon footprint, explains Elizabeth Wilmot, President. This is just one more way we can make a contribution.

We have been looking into ways to 'sgreen's our flat roof but we have been concerned about the loading bearing strength of the roof if we added dirt and plants on the entire roof, said Rodney Young, Operations Manager of the four-year-old electronics recycling (http://www.turtlewings.com) company. Now our plan is to coat the roof white and then install small planter areas with indigenous species in select reinforced roof areas, continued Young.

This will help us accomplish two goals in reducing global warming: The plants will help absorb carbon and the heat of the sunlight will be reflected back out of the atmosphere. I have learned that the planet and atmosphere are a closed system with the exception of sunlight, added Wilmot. Sunlight can travel back out of the atmosphere so the heat of the light is not absorbed by the Earth.

As a recycling company, it only makes sense that we decrease our carbon footprint in every way possible. We hope more companies help to do their part too, added Young.
