Utah club team excels at USA Wrestling Western Regional Championship



Specialized Wrestling Club, an Olympic Styles wrestling club that practices at Cottonwood High, had 11 wrestlers place at the USA-Wrestling Western Regional Championship last weekend in Winnemucca, Nevada. Over 1000 wrestlers from 11 western states competed in 4 age groups, and 14 weight divisions.



Wrestlers competed in both Greco-Roman, and Freestyle. Both wrestling styles are Olympic sports. Placers are:



Mathew Brown, age 15, 1st place Greco Roman, 1st Freestyle

Spencer Brown, age 13, 4th Greco Roman, 6th Freestyle

Jason Chamberlain, age 15, 1st Greco Roman, 1st Freestyle

Austin Christensen, age 12, 2nd Greco Roman, 3rd Freestyle

Jordan Clark, age15, 4th Greco Roman, 5th Freestyle

Matt Fairbrother, age15, 2nd Greco Roman, 3rd Freestyle

Jaes Jones, age 15, 1st Greco Roman, 3rd Freestyle

Blake Mangrum age 15, 2nd Greco Roman, 1st Freestyle

Connor Meadows, age 14, 4th Greco Roman, 5rd Freestyle

Cole Shaffer, age 15, 2nd Greco Roman, 2nd Freestyle

Mike Valentine, age 15, 5th Greco Roman, 5th Freestyle



To qualify for the Regional Championship, wrestlers had to place at a Utah State Championship tournament held last April. The top 6 placers from each of 4 regional tournaments qualify for the USA Wrestling National Championship held in Fargo North Dakota on July 23rd.



Specialized Wrestling Club is coached by Cam Jones, a 3X Utah State Champion, and placer at the USA World Senior Team Trials held earlier this month in Ames, Iowa.
