Now that the candidates are decided and the 2008 Presidential election is heating up, WE tv has added more fuel to its WE Vote '08 campaign, which is dedicated to encouraging women across the country to get involved in the upcoming Presidential Election by registering to vote and casting their ballots this November. To help spread the word about the campaign, WE tv has launched a new online application available only on Facebook. The new 'Speak For Yourself!' application enables users to send reminders to all their Facebook friends to register to vote.
The application lives on each individual's Facebook profile page and keeps track of the number of friends they send it to, as well as all the friends their friends send it to. At the
bottom of the counter is a "WE Vote Meter" keeping a running count of the total participants that have pledged to register to vote. Facebook users can locate the application by typing "WE
Vote 08" into the search box on their profile page or going to http://apps.facebook.com/wetvvote/.
"The addition of the application will help our WE Vote '08 campaign move into the next phase of its mission, which is to galvanize women to cast their ballots in November," said Kim
Martin, EVP and GM of WE tv. "In the 2004 presidential election, 36 million women did not vote, and as we get closer to this year's election it becomes even more critical for WE tv to
encourage women to make sure their voices are heard by registering to vote."
WE tv launched WE Vote '08 in November, 2007 as the focus for its WE Empowers Women public affairs initiative leading up to the November 2008 Presidential election. WE Vote '08 is
dedicated to encouraging women's involvement in the political process by educating them on important issues and making sure they are a registered voter, which will enable them to cast
their ballots in November. This campaign has attracted such celebrities as Kelly Ripa, LeAnn Rimes and Kerry Washington, who have helped raise the campaign's awareness, as well as
National Co-Chairs Geraldine Ferraro (D) and Susan Molinari (R), both prominent players in politics.
