According to a survey of 2000 UK adults, conducted by YouGov in April on behalf of the Carbon Trust, some 62% said environmental concerns influence their purchasing decisions 'sthe same as a year ago's and just over a quarter said they influence them 'seven more's than in 2008.
It seems that consumers still want to buy green despite the current economic climate.
The research shows that a business'ss green credentials have a significant impact on consumer buying choices. Two thirds (66%) of consumers say it'ss important to buy from environmentally
responsible companies, with one in seven (14%) saying they have voted with their feet by deciding not to buy from a company based on their environmental reputation and almost a quarter
based on a company'ss ethical reputation. Consumers increasingly scrutinise business actions on climate change, 44% saying they would like more information on what companies are actually
doing to be environmentally responsible and to reduce their environmental impact.
Retailers who think 'sgoing green's is just another fad or marketing ploy should think again. Shoppers are developing more of a green attitude as a way of life and retailers need to be
there to meet those needs because each eco-friendly idea retailers adopt can make a huge difference to our planet.
The Entwistle Group (http://www.entwistlegroup.co.uk), a market leader in reprographics, print and office supplies is a company that is
already acting on consumers's green awareness. The company has entered into the certification process with the Forestry Steward Council (FSC) which promotes responsible forest management
and the purchasing of forest products from well-managed forests. It has also for some time offered deliveries within Manchester city centre by Cycle Courier to help improve its
environmental impact on the community.
Jason Richards, Managing Director, comments the Cycle Courier service is just one policy we have adopted in order to improve our own environmental impact and it is proving to be a very
popular service with our city centre customers. At Entwistle, we like to lead the way and have been at the forefront of innovation since we were founded in 1899. We hope we can
demonstrate to our customers in a variety of ways that eco-friendly issues are fundamental considerations of our business operations. We are committed to saving the environment and making
responsible choices. We are constantly reviewing policies to help reduce, reuse and recycle throughout the group whenever possible, improving our social responsibility and employee
