Bridgton Academy Hosts Bicentennial Symposium

To commemorate its bicentennial anniversary, Bridgton Academy (www.bridgtonacademy.org) is hosting an inaugural symposium entitled "A Changing Mind: Exploring the Transitions of Adolescent Males," January 4, 2008, on the Academy's campus. This symposium will explore the issues involving young men in transition, and the work that educators, parents, and mentors can do in facing the transition of adolescent boys from the start of high school to the completion of college.

Dr. Adam J. Cox, Ph.D, ABPP, a nationally recognized author of groundbreaking works on male communication and the concept of executive control, will provide the foundation for the symposium through his presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in smaller breakout sessions following these presentations before reporting back to the larger group.

"On behalf of the Bridgton Academy community, I am proud to host this historic event as part of our bicentennial celebration," said Headmaster David N. Hursty. "As the nation's only college preparatory school whose entire student body is comprised of adolescent young men pursuing a postgraduate year, our mission is to facilitate their critical transition from high school to college, and we are eager to share our successful strategies and approaches in doing so with others who work with this population."

Registration for this symposium may be completed online at the Bridgton Academy website, www.bridgtonacademy.org. Also on the website are directions to the Bridgton Academy campus, accommodation information, and the program schedule. The all-inclusive fee for this one-day program with lunch is $45.00, and CEU credits will be available for participants.

Founded in 1808, Bridgton Academy is the only accredited college preparatory school in the nation dedicated to a postgraduate year for young men seeking to develop academic skills, study skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence in preparation for success in both college and beyond.
