New Support Service for Families in Finsbury Park and Brixton
April 29, 2005 -- Families in the Finsbury Park and Brixton areas of London can now benefit from free help and guidance on family issues and pastoral support for parents. The UCKG HelpCentre, a Christian church and registered charity, is running weekly 'happy parenting' meetings designed to improve parent/child relationships and help families function more effectively.
"Whether you are concerned about your relationship with one or more of your children, their behaviour, or trouble at school, UCKG's happy parenting meetings can provide practical solutions and supportive prayer," explains Pastor Yemi Abiodun. "The aim is to help overcome issues and encourage the development of a positive relationship.
"The meetings are highly interactive and focus on a different issue and inspirational message each week," he continues. "Often parents have exhausted all other options and aren't sure where to turn. We encourage parents and children to share their experiences and work through problems together."
Samantha Dixon went through a bad patch with her seven-year-old son when they moved from Birmingham to London. "He was increasingly difficult to live with and not a week went by without me receiving phone calls about his bad behaviour at school," she said.
"I attended several happy parenting meetings at UCKG and was advised to consider the amount of time I was spending with my son. I realised that my prayers needed to be backed up with action, so despite being tired after work, I made sure that we did things together, whether it was watching a film or simply helping with his homework. It was only a matter of weeks before his behaviour dramatically changed for the better."
The happy parenting meetings take place every Saturday, 11am, at UCKG Finsbury Park, 232 Seven Sisters Road and UCKG Brixton, 386 Brixton Road and are open to the general public. For further information telephone 020 7686 6000.
Additional UCKG HelpCentre family activities include a Sunday school, youth group and after school clubs. These are all run by UCKG Pastors who have undertaken five years of training and conform to the UCKG's child protection policy.
UCKG has UK headquarters in Finsbury Park and churches across London. The church is strongly committed to providing a range of outreach activities, helping individuals in the community to realise their potential.
