Fantasy Tale of Children in Peril Teaches Trust and Tolerance



Readers of Alysa of the Fields will eagerly embrace this second tale of Xunar-kun. The Field and TrailFolk must work together to find parents for a group of orphans in Tina Howe'ss newly published The TrailFolk of Xunar-kun: Book Two in the Tellings of Xunar-kun (ISBN 9780976858546, TrailFolk Publishing, 2008).



When Alysa of the Fields ended, a discovery had been made which now propels a quest in this second book, The Trail Folk of Xunar-kun. As Alysa becomes familiar with the TrailFolk, she is also falling further in love with Szaren. Together, they experience the differences in their cultures, teaching them both trust and tolerance. Their relationship is soon put to the ultimate test when they embark on a quest to find the parents of a group of orphaned children.



Despite many dangers, the quest for the children'ss parents is thought to come to a happy conclusion when Alysa and the rest of the Seekers meet Trak's238;p-s's232;n and his people. They appear to be the Parents long searched for, and eagerly they are brought to the children, but once together, these pseudo-parents no longer seem interested in the children, making Alysa and her companions wonder why they so badly wanted to reach the village.



More than the Parents are being discovered in Xunar-kun. Three thousand years ago, the great Cat'sclysm had been thought to destroy everyone but the Field Folk. Now, no longer isolated, the Field Folk, along with the TrailFolk, are re-exploring Xunar-kun and learning much that had been forgotten. Secrets from the past are being re-discovered, some of which might have been better kept secret so the past does not repeat itself.



With great attention to detail, Tina Howe has created an imaginary world that allows the reader the pleasure of escapism. The journey through the Tellings of Xunar-kun is like a vacation to a foreign land, a vacation wrought with its own peril and hardship, but one both educational and rewarding. Readers return to the real world understanding that the book'ss theme, We are a part of something greater than ourselves, applies to them and the real world just as much as it does to the Seekers of Xunar-kun.



About the Author


Tina Howe holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and Art. Her favorite college studies included physical and cultural anthropology, archaeology, studio art, and art history. Her love of creativity, her interest in diverse peoples, and her own struggles inspired her to write Alysa of the Fields and The Trail Folk of Xunar-kun. Tina also illustrated the novels's covers. The cover of Alysa of the Fields won the 2006 Dream Realm Awards for Cover Art. Tina Howe teaches creative writing workshops, and she is currently teaching graphic arts at Corning Community College in Corning, NY.
