8211; The Journal Sentinel, Inc., publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, announced today that it has purchased MilwaukeeMoms.com the leading online brand in the metropolitan
Milwaukee market for parents raising children under six years of age. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Journal Sentinel, Inc. is a Journal Communications's8217; company.
's8220;MilwaukeeMoms.com is an important first step for us to enter existing online parenting communities and to help better serve this often overlooked audience,'s8221; said Elizabeth
(Betsy) Brenner, president and chief operating officer of Journal Communications's8217; publishing group. 's8220;The Journal Sentinel has a tradition of serving the information needs of
our readers and advertisers, and MilwaukeeMoms.com both continues and expands upon that tradition.'s8221;
MilwaukeeMoms.com will begin carrying select content from Metroparent magazine, the Journal Sentinel'ss award-winning parenting magazine, according to Brenner. Published 12 times each
year, 60,000 copies of Metroparent are distributed to and available free at more than 750 locations in southeastern Wisconsin, including hospitals, schools and day care centers, grocery
stores, libraries, retailers, medical offices and recreation locations. Every month, Metroparent'ss pages are filled with useful articles on topics of interest to parents, from having a
baby to choosing a summer camp to getting ready for college.
MilwaukeeMoms.com was launched in 2002 by Pat and Meg McKenna, to 's8220;make life just a little bit easier's8221; for fellow metro-area Milwaukee parents raising children under the age
of six. The 's8220;secret's8221; to its success, according to its founders, is the site's8217;s ability to put a wide variety of helpful planning and decision-making resources within easy
reach of time-strapped parents. Users are also provided with free access to an interactive, open support network of area-wide parents and parenting experts through its extremely active
discussion groups's8217; area.
's8220;The site was truly influenced by our own surprising experience with isolation while raising our own babies and toddlers,'s8221; said Meg McKenna, co-founder and editor of
MilwaukeeMoms.com. 's8220;We knew that the needs and concerns of parents and/or caregivers of children aged six and younger were similar to our own, but we never imagined how big of an
impact the site would have in changing the lives of parents in the greater Milwaukee area and beyond.'s8221;
As a result of strong word of mouth advertising among area parents and the key support of non-profits across southeastern Wisconsin, the site has seen strong year-over-year growth.
Traffic has continued to grow with the addition to the site of 's8220;Mom Talk Radio,'s8221; a first-of-its-kind radio talk show dedicated to real-life issues confronting mothers and
parents.
's8220;We's8217;re incredibly excited about MilwaukeeMoms.com becoming a part of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's8217;s family of publications,'s8221; co-founder Pat McKenna said.
's8220;With the Journal's8217;s marketing expertise and reach, and, most importantly, its recognition of our niche strategy, MilwaukeeMoms.com will now be able to build community with an
even greater population of parents in southeast Wisconsin.'s8221;
