The Sedalia Pregnancy Center strives to make motherhood easier for expecting women, and has recently been featured in the Sedalia Democrat for its work to help mothers prepare by giving them supplies, education and the chance to socialize with other women who are also expecting.
The center has it own inventory consisting of diapers, formula, food and other supplies to give to mothers who can't afford them and also offers use of its library, which provides parents
with a variety of baby books addressing different topics.
However, the mothers can't expect to just receive the items that the center offers; instead, they have to earn them.
"Instead of just giving things away, we try to encourage women to come here and take advantage of our services in exchange for supplies. That way, new and expecting mothers are learning
skills they need, as well as receiving the supplies they need to implement what they learn," said Kathy Chappell, the Executive Director of the Sedalia Pregnancy Center.
The program is largely funded by the Alternative to Abortion grant, which is a federal grant obtained through the Missouri Alliance for Life. The center also receives assistance from
local churches and private donors.
