Colorado Springs, Co - RPG Showcase, the new podcast on the scene, is making waves. The show is gaining popularity and there are new subscribers daily. The podcast is an eclectic mixture of news, reviews and interviews of some of the industry's hottest creators, publishers and distributors.

Per Wikipedia, "Podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). It became popular in late 2004, largely due to automatic downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers.

"Podcasting is distinct from other types of online media delivery because of its subscription model, which uses a feed (such as RSS or Atom) to deliver an enclosed file. Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated "radio shows," and gives broadcast radio programs a new distribution method. Listeners may subscribe to feeds using "podcatching" software (a type of aggregator), which periodically checks for and downloads new content automatically. Some podcatching software is also able to synchronise (copy) podcasts to portable music players. Any digital audio player or computer with audio-playing software can play podcasts. The same technique can deliver video files, and by 2005 some aggregators could play video as well as audio."

Another way of looking at podcast is "Personal On-Demand broadCASTing." The podcast is broadcast every other Tuesday at the companies' website, and can be subscribed to using podcatcher software such as Doppler (http://dopplerradio.net) for Windows or iPodder (http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php) for Macs & Linux.

Mike Conway, host of RPG Showcase, said, "I'm really excited by how fast in popularity the poscast is rising. I've always wanted to do a radio show about role-playing games of some kind, but was never sure how to go about it. Podcasting has proven to be the answer, and I am amazed by how many hungry gamers are looking for something new." RPG Showcase plans to cover the newest games coming out as well as covering classic games with special episodes. Conway, who has been gaming for over 20 years and has worked in game design for 2 years (including the revised edition of the popular "HeartQuest" RPG) already has games planned for several episodes, as well as interviews with industry professionals. "There's a lot out there," he said, "and I want to cover as much as possible for my listeners. If any publisher or designer has something new coming out, let me know. I know there's an audience for your product."
