Trenches Inc. (www.trenchfantasy.com) of Seattle today launched a new breed of online fantasy football for the serious fantasy gamer. Trench Fantasy is fantasy football with scoring and game-play focused on a very important and often overlooked group of players, those in the trenches.
There are over 20 million fantasy football gamers out there and the serious fantasy players are always looking for a new game. Trench Fantasy opens up the 'sother half's of football and
allows fantasy players a new way to follow and engage professional football, said Trench Fantasy'ss founder Eric Koivisto. The hard-core fantasy guys already know the importance of trench
players and now they can manage them in a fantasy game that'ss 100% focused on trench stats and positions, offering a welcomed alternative to the flash of the marquee players with our
celebration of hard-working players in the trenches.
Trench Fantasy blends the familiarity of traditional fantasy football with a new set of statistics and game objectives that focus on team unit success, not individual glory.
Teams, Leagues and Starters
Fantasy rosters are drafted with each owner choosing one, two or three Team Units at seven different positions:
> Offensive-Line
> Defensive-Line
> Field Goal Unit
> Defensive Secondary
> Punting Squad
> Kickoff Team
> Defensive Special Team
Leagues are made up of 6-10 teams and can have 1-3 divisions with easy set-up; online/offline draft options, add/drop/trade functionality and real-time scoring intended to provide
familiarity and a quick start for current fantasy players.
Game Play
Trench Fantasy scoring and game play is based on accomplishments of the team unit, as opposed to the individual achievement that is central to traditional fantasy football. For each game,
a team owner chooses to play one starting unit for each position; such as the offensive line from one team and the defensive secondary from another.
Points are awarded for key statistics that occur between the goal lines and put teams in position to score. These include:
Offense:
> First downs;
> Team total rushing yards;
> Team total passing yards;
> Yards per completion/reception
> Number of completions/rushes
> Yards per rush
> 10+ play drives;
Defense:
> Forced punts;
> Three and out;
> 4th down stops;
> Stuffs (zero yard plays); and
> Limiting yards per completion/attempt.
Scoring is a blend between real-time stats and game-end scoring, providing opportunities for players to track their performance real-time and throughout game day. In addition to the
sample above, points are awarded for the performance of the punting unit, kickoff squad, defensive special teams, field-goal unit and defensive secondary.
When you look at the game of football, you see teams marching down the field for eight consecutive first downs and then some big running back comes off the bench to punch it in from two
yards out, said Koivisto. Most fantasy games value the guy who gets the two yards, our game is about the guys who did the work to get them there.
Pricing
League pricing is variable depending on the number of teams per league and Trench Fantasy supports leagues of six to ten players:
> $79 for a six player league;
> $99 for a league of eight; and
> $109 for 10 player leagues.
