Wynnewood, PA January 20, 2009 -- Alex'ss Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF) hosted the 3RD Annual Lemon Ball this past Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The Lemon Ball, an evening of cocktails, dinner, raffles, silent and live auctions; was attended by over 600 supporters of ALSF in their work to find a cure for all children with cancer. In its third year, the gala celebration, presented by Volvo Cars with support from CIGNA, raised $500,000.

Despite the state of the current economy, generous supporters of Alex'ss Lemonade Stand Foundation showed up to continue the battle against childhood cancer, the disease that sadly kills more children than any other in the United States. One example of this generosity took place during the Live Auction when Liz Scott, mother of the late Alexandra Alex Scott, auctioned a baker'ss dozen of her famous lemon cookies. The winning bid of $13,000 was received with a standing ovation on the eve of what would have been Alex'ss 13th birthday. Along with the lemon cookies, nearly 300 other items were bid on, garnering an astounding $100,000 plus in auction items alone.

The honorees of the evening included: the Owners and Trainer of thoroughbred racing champion Afleet Alex, who garnered national attention for the Foundation during the 2005 Triple Crown Series; Gail Apfel of Ardmore, Alex'ss former Principal, was named Foundation Volunteer of the Year; and the Mozer family of Kansas City, were named Stand Hosts of the Year.

About Alex'ss Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex'ss Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra Alex Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex'ss Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $25 million towards fulfilling Alex'ss dream of finding a cure, funding over 80 research projects nationally.
