December 9, 2004 -- Love And Learning Co. is celebrating twenty years of teaching language and reading skills to children with special needs. Developed by Joe and Susan Kotlinski for
their own daughter, Maria, their technique combines the use of audio tapes, videos, books and computer programs. Maria exceeded all expectations by being able to speak, read and
understand 250 words at 3 years of age and over 1,000 words at 5 years of age.
Lisa Roland writes: "At 18 months my beautiful little boy with Down Syndrome could recognizes over a dozen words thanks to Love And Learning. At 2 1/2 years he could read all 500 words in
the six kits. We are so proud of Jamie and we have told all our friends with children about your technique. Jamie's speech therapist is convinced that the children who view your tapes
have a much broader vocabulary."
What makes Love And Learning materials unique is the way letters/words are clearly presented to help children focus their attention. There are 3 parts to each learning kit. An audio tape
works on vocalization and is played at naptime, bedtime or playtime and lets the child hear the words spoken in a clear, slow manner. A video tape/DVD repeats the same words visually and
phonetically, again in a clear, focused presentation. Special books clearly present the same letters/words and, when used for just a few minutes each day, reinforce the audio and video
tapes/DVDs as well as provide a special time for parent and child to read together. Included on each video is a presentation explaining
how to use this technique to best meet a child's individual needs.
Love And Learning presented at the 1997 NADS conference in Chicago. In addition, Love And Learning has been published in the Down Syndrome News of the European Down Syndrome
Association/Down Syndrome International and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. These and additional articles are available at http://www.loveandlearning.com
