The festival is for student filmmakers seeking a global community of other passionate, driven high school students in cinema. The inaugural festival will screen the best work of high school students from the U.S. and internationally.
"The goal for the festival is to create a summit atmosphere allowing students to determine their roles as filmmakers," said Michael Mittelstaedt, director of the motion picture arts program at Interlochen Center for the Arts. "Young filmmakers will form relationships that will serve them in their college and professional lives."
Participants will be invited to join the Future of Cinema Union, a collection of students interested in film. The union will encourage collaboration by allowing students to post casting and crew calls and network.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their films via withoutabox.com. For more information visit www.interlochen.org/fociff.
Students in the motion picture arts division study the fundamental components of screenwriting and production in the most advanced facilities available to high school students. Programs are offered through Interlochen Arts Camp (http://www.interlochen.org/camp/summer_camp_programs/motion_picture_arts_2WT.mc_id=_FOCIFF_Feb08), a six-week summer session and the Interlochen Arts Academy (http://www.interlochen.org/academy/arts_areas/motion_picture_artsWT.mc_id=_FOCIFF_Feb08), a fine arts boarding high school.
The nonprofit Interlochen Center for the Arts, recipient of the 2006 National Medal of Arts, is the only organization in the world that brings together: a 2,500-student summer camp program; a 500-student fine arts boarding high school; opportunities for hundreds of adults to engage in fulfilling artistic and creative programs; two 24-hour listener-supported public radio stations (classical music and news); more than 600 arts presentations annually by students, faculty and world-renowned guest artists.
