NYCSalt (www.nycsalt.org) is a photography and visual arts after-school program whose mission is to provide visual communication skills, internships and exposure to the creative industry in NYC to teenagers in Washington Heights, encouraging them to think creatively, learn problem solving skills and use their creative voices to speak out positively in our culture by making photographs that tell a story.
Emily Travis, a photographer, donates her time to the organization, she wrote a letter to the stage manager of IN THE HEIGHTS, introducing the program and the parallel stories between the highly motivated youth, making a better life for themselves, and the musical. IN THE HEIGHTS is an exhilarating journey, set in Washington Heights, with an amazing cast, incredible dancing and a tale of hope and self discovery. The New York Times calls it, "A musical about chasing your dreams and finding your true home, with enough energy to light up the George Washington Bridge. A SINGULAR NEW SENSATION!"
Emily and the teens will meet the cast and crew, tour backstage, photograph and watch the show. Emily says, "Arranging this opportunity helps to keep my life balanced. I have a successful career as a photographer, working with clients to determine the best way to photograph and present their brand. I applied that same skill for the teens in NYCSalt, arranging for our experience with IN THE HEIGHTS. It's important to give back, share my knowledge as a photographer and support the creative efforts of these talented teens."
Emily is quickly becoming a trusted source for manufacturers in delivering the freshest blend of art and commerce with her photography. She's been providing photographic services for clients such as, Zebi Baby, AB Sea, Margery Ellen, Elizabeth Cotton, Macy's and Ann Taylor.
