Many Bay Area theatre companies have come and gone, but upstart Renegade Theatre Experiment charges into its fifth season with its mission intact: to bring unique, outstanding theatre to
the Bay Area. In keeping with Renegade tradition, the company will present an outrageous World Premiere, a hot-button West Coast Premiere, a Renegade family outing, and a Shakespeare
classic with a Renegade spin.
Artistic director Sean C. Murphy notes, 's8220;We have a strong political thread running through the season that examines the role and responsibility of the individual within society.
These plays examine our morality, our commitment to the ideals of our founding fathers, and our duty as citizens of the state. Even our family show explores some of these themes in a
kooky, kid-friendly manner. All in all, I am incredibly excited about our fifth season.'s8221;
THE PORNOZOMBIES by Matt Casarino (July 14-29; previews July 13): Take one part ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, one part THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and one part SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Mix them together
and you get the World Premiere of THE PORNOZOMBIES! Find out what happens when a mad scientist's8217;s plan to bring love and happiness to us all involves reanimating the dead to make
films of's8230;well's8230;an adult nature.
BILL OF (W)RIGHTS by Janet Allard, Rebecca Gilman, Jeffrey Hatcher, Syl Jones, Gavin Lawrence, Melanie Marnich, Jane Martin, Kelly Stuart, and Elizabeth Wong (September 8-23; previews
September 7): BILL OF (W)RIGHTS is a political funhouse growing from a moment in history when self-censorship abounds and the populace is increasingly governed by fear. Nine of
America's8217;s hottest playwrights offer ten plays, each based on one of the U.S. Constitution'ss first ten amendments. Despite greater implications, the pieces focus on the
interpersonal, from a father and daughter facing a criminal trial to the silence of an unfaithful husband pleading the fifth to his family -- not to mention a company of actors yelling
Fire! in a crowded theater.
SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL by Louis Sachar; adapted for the stage by John Olive (November 3-25; previews November 2): Wayside School was supposed to be 30 classrooms, one story
high, but by mistake it was built straight up, 30 stories. And that'ss not all that'ss funny here. This bizarre building is home to cows, rats, a ghost and a teacher that turns her
students into apples. This show's8217;s quirky humor will appeal to children of all ages.
TITUS ANDRONICUS by William Shakespeare (January 26-February 10; previews January 25): Mighty Titus, greatest warrior in the history of Rome, having culminated his illustrious career by
defeating the Goths, returns to Rome with Tamora, Queen of the Goths, as his captive. When Tamora'ss son is condemned to die, she vows bloody revenge on Titus. This is by far
Shakespeare'ss darkest, goriest, and most grotesque play. Once again we bring our warped sensibilities to the Bard and the results will be bloodcurdling.
San Jose's8217;s voice for alternative theatre is still loud and clear's8230;we invite you to join us in making Renegade Theatre's8217;s fifth season its greatest yet.
What they'sre saying about Renegade Theatre Experiment:
They do make it a point to sort of reach out to alternative voices and stories that aren'st necessarily toldthey'sre wanting to do the same thing that I'sm wanting to do's8212;challenging
people to think when they'sre seeing a show, not shying away from topics that would be taboo. It'ss a bold company.'s8221;
[Playwright Erica Hemenway, quoted in The Salinas Californian, February 29, 2006
's8220;A South Bay company that's8217;s already received notice from the press for its bold, unconventional productions.'s8221;

About Past Productions:
WAITING TO DANCE by Erica Hemenway (World Premiere)
's8220;At last, a play centered on women that doesn'st feel as if half the character potentialities have been dropped from the conversation. Engaging, unpredictable, sometimes warm,
sometimes brutal, Renegade Theatre Experiment'ss world-premiere WAITING TO DANCE keeps the company'ss brand of errant sophistication going to unexpected places.'s8221;

LORCA IN A GREEN DRESS by Nilo Cruz (California Premiere)
RTE certainly lives up to its name with Lorca,'s's making its mark as a little theater company willing to chase the high of new and difficult work.
[Karen D'sSouza, San Jose Mercury News; July 20, 2005
Roald Dahl's8217;s THE BFG
Like Dahl himself, the Renegade production has an eye and ear for speaking directly to the child in us's8212;magic, creepies, silliness and all.
[Marianne Messina, Metro, November 9, 2005
Ever the rebel, trust that the Renegade Theatre Experiment first children's8217;s production would be delightfully creative yet with a proffered edgeJust don's8217;t expect a Disney
soufflé. More like a bowl of hot chili, pleasing, but with a kick.

About RTE
Committed to forward-thinking performance, Renegade Theatre Experiment builds creative partnerships with aspiring and established artists to bring unique, outstanding theatre to the Bay
Area. Founded in 2001, when a group of alumni from Santa Clara University joined together to develop as actors, RTE continues to explore the human experience through established and fresh
performance works which break with convention. RTE's8217;s artistic and critical successes have included the World Premiere of WAITING TO DANCE by Erica Hemenway, Roald Dahl's8217;s THE
BFG, the California Premiere of LORCA IN A GREEN DRESS by Nilo Cruz, Avery Crozier'ss EAT THE RUNT, Brian Parks's8217; GONER, HEAR ME ROAR: WOMEN'sS IMAGES OF SELF, and the first North
American production of the critically acclaimed show, THE DICE HOUSE by Paul Lucas.
RTE continues in its tradition of brining exceptional, avant-garde productions to the South Bay by kicking off its 2006/2007 season with the World Premiere of Matt Casarino's8217;s campy,
satirical cautionary tale, THE PORNOZOMBIES. Find out what happens when a mad scientist's8217;s plan to bring love and happiness to us all involves reanimating the dead to make films
of's8230;well's8230;an adult nature. This is followed by the West Coast Premiere of BILL OF (W)RIGHTS by 9 of America's8217;s hottest playwrights: Janet Allard, Rebecca Gilman, Jeffrey
Hatcher, Syl Jones, Gavin Lawrence, Melanie Marnich, Jane Martin, Kelly Stuart, and Elizabeth Wong. BILL OF (W)RIGHTS is a political funhouse examining the Constitution'ss first ten
amendments in a post 9/11 world where self-censorship abounds and the populace is increasingly governed by fear. In November, RTE presents the Renegade family show with Louis
Sachar's8217;s twisted tale SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL, about a school that was supposed to be 30 classrooms, one story high; but by mistake it was built straight up 30 stories.
And that'ss not all that'ss funny here. This bizarre building is home to cows, rats, a ghost and a teacher that turns her students into apples. This show's8217;s quirky humor will appeal
to children of all ages. The season finishes strongly with the Shakespeare's8217;s darkest, goriest, and most grotesque play, TITUS ANDRONICUS. Once again we bring our warped
sensibilities to the Bard and the results will be truly awesome.
