Renegade Theatre Experiment Proudly Announces its 5th Season



Many Bay Area theatre companies have come and gone, but upstart Renegade Theatre Experiment charges into its fifth season with its mission intact: to bring unique, outstanding theatre to the Bay Area. In keeping with Renegade tradition, the company will present an outrageous World Premiere, a hot-button West Coast Premiere, a Renegade family outing, and a Shakespeare classic with a Renegade spin.



Artistic director Sean C. Murphy notes, 's8220;We have a strong political thread running through the season that examines the role and responsibility of the individual within society. These plays examine our morality, our commitment to the ideals of our founding fathers, and our duty as citizens of the state. Even our family show explores some of these themes in a kooky, kid-friendly manner. All in all, I am incredibly excited about our fifth season.'s8221;



THE PORNOZOMBIES by Matt Casarino (July 14-29; previews July 13): Take one part ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, one part THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and one part SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Mix them together and you get the World Premiere of THE PORNOZOMBIES! Find out what happens when a mad scientist's8217;s plan to bring love and happiness to us all involves reanimating the dead to make films of's8230;well's8230;an adult nature.



BILL OF (W)RIGHTS by Janet Allard, Rebecca Gilman, Jeffrey Hatcher, Syl Jones, Gavin Lawrence, Melanie Marnich, Jane Martin, Kelly Stuart, and Elizabeth Wong (September 8-23; previews September 7): BILL OF (W)RIGHTS is a political funhouse growing from a moment in history when self-censorship abounds and the populace is increasingly governed by fear. Nine of America's8217;s hottest playwrights offer ten plays, each based on one of the U.S. Constitution'ss first ten amendments. Despite greater implications, the pieces focus on the interpersonal, from a father and daughter facing a criminal trial to the silence of an unfaithful husband pleading the fifth to his family -- not to mention a company of actors yelling Fire! in a crowded theater.



SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL by Louis Sachar; adapted for the stage by John Olive (November 3-25; previews November 2): Wayside School was supposed to be 30 classrooms, one story high, but by mistake it was built straight up, 30 stories. And that'ss not all that'ss funny here. This bizarre building is home to cows, rats, a ghost and a teacher that turns her students into apples. This show's8217;s quirky humor will appeal to children of all ages.



TITUS ANDRONICUS by William Shakespeare (January 26-February 10; previews January 25): Mighty Titus, greatest warrior in the history of Rome, having culminated his illustrious career by defeating the Goths, returns to Rome with Tamora, Queen of the Goths, as his captive. When Tamora'ss son is condemned to die, she vows bloody revenge on Titus. This is by far Shakespeare'ss darkest, goriest, and most grotesque play. Once again we bring our warped sensibilities to the Bard and the results will be bloodcurdling.
