Sharon Shearing Files Nomination Papers for Niagara Falls Regional Councillor
Community and labour activist Sharon Shearing filed her nomination papers for a seat on Regional Council on Tuesday, July 4.
Shearing's8217;s involvement in community affairs and labour issues has made her aware of the growing importance of regional government in people's8217;s day to day lives and convinced her that Niagara Falls needs a new and different voice on Regional Council, a voice to represent the community.
's8220;For too many years now, we have been hearing the same old voices on Regional Council,'s8221; Shearing says. 's8220;Dealing with issues in the same old way. And the residents are left to pick up the tab's8221;
's8220;It's8217;s time that the voters of Niagara Falls had somebody on the Regional Council who listens to them. Someone who cares about fairness in taxation, about development that respect the community, our heritage and the environment, about ensuring that we get the services we need and pay for.'s8221;
Chair of the Niagara Falls Municipal Heritage Committee (LACAC), Past President and Vice-President of Steelworkers Local 6520, Shearing also currently works on the CARSA (Rape Crisis Line) as a volunteer, and has been employed at Telespectrum Canada Inc. since opening in 1997.
