Salisbury Congressional Campaign Announces Fundraising Victory Out Raises Sali in Idaho



"January's Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing is the clearest indication to date, that my campaign is essential in keeping the first congressional district Republican," said congressional candidate Matt Salisbury today.

Salisbury, an Iraq combat veteran, announced that he has received more dollars from more individuals in the 1st Congressional District than GOP Incumbent Bill Sali by a 2-1 margin, according to federal reports.

"In his brief federal career, Congressman Sali continues to require out of state special interest groups to fund his campaigns," Salisbury said. He is challenging freshman Republican Bill Sali in Idaho's primary on May 27th.

Based on the January 31 (FEC) filing, the Sali campaign raised 8 out of every 10 dollars from special interest groups based in Washington D.C., New York and California. "It's primary time, and again Bill is forced to look to out of state special interest groups for his support," observed Salisbury. "I am honored that I am raising money from everyday working Idahoans."

Salisbury for Congress raised $21,081, spent $15,641 and had $5,441 in the bank at the time of the report.

FEC reports indicate Sali for Congress is more than $150,000 in debt and spending money it doesn't have. In contrast, Salisbury's volunteer driven campaign is in the black, fully operational, and reaching voters from Nevada to the Canadian border. "We haven't raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, but we have raised more money from more Idahoans than the incumbent. I am proud of our fiscally responsible grass roots campaign."

Salisbury predicted, "I am going to win this primary and the general election because we are moving house by house, block by block and reaching Republican and independent voters. Not only do they like what they hear, they are giving. The lion's share of my donations are small -- $1, $10, $25, or $100. That kind of math wins elections."

"This race is going to be about who reaches the voters, not who raises the most out of state special interest money."
