Young Republican Chair Nick Polyzos Announces Bid for Monroe City Council Seat

May 7, 2005 -- Nick Polyzos, Chairman of the Union County Young Republicans, announced today his intentions to run for a seat on the Monroe City Council. Polyzos, 25, expressed his concern over the current council's recent decisions regarding the prepared food tax and the Monroe connector which is slated to be built as a toll road. Polyzos, who is currently convening his campaign committee, has tapped Monroe consultant Alan Teitleman as his campaign manager. The election is October 11th.

Polyzos said he intends to mix his campaign with both traditional and grassroots activities as well as have an active internet presence. Records show that VoteNick.com was purchased May 4th by Polyzos' consultant. "The internet is the latest tool out there to get a message across. It is my hope to reach the voters of Monroe through the net both during the election, and hopefully afterwards as a City Councilman".

"I'm not doing this to elevate myself politically", Polyzos commented. "I'm running to provide a fresh face and present new ideas to the City Council. I do not believe every time the City of Monroe has a budgetary problem they automatically call for a tax increase". Polyzos has signed the CSE "No New Tax Pledge". "I have a serious problem when a politician says "I can't" as the city council has said on numerous issues. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but my interests are the interests of the citizens of Monroe, bar none.

Polyzos has been at the helm of the fight to make both the Monroe bypass and connector toll-free. His organization has thus far collected over 4,000 signatures that will be presented to the Department of Transportation.

"It is time to lead the city of Monroe in a new direction. In this election we can either stick with the status quo or elect a candidate with a positive vision for the city's future."
