Tired Voter Auctions Political Affiliation on eBay
June 15, 2005 -- A Portland, Oregon man, tired of voting for the best candidate in elections, has decided to vote straight-party. To help decide which party he should join, he's leaving it up to the highest bidder on his eBay auction.
A registered Independent, he has decided that it would be easier and less stressful to simply pick a party and vote that way. He wishes to remain anonymous at this time due to the intolerant atmosphere in today's political environment.
For years, the 38 year old man has researched candidates and positions on his own, reading party publications, voter guides, and news reports. He has spent many hours before every election deciding which candidates and issues would most help the country.
"In most elections, the candidates I've supported have been defeated," he relates. He has voted for both Democrats and Republicans over his 20 year voting history.
Having seen the ease with which other people who vote straight-party live their political lives, he has decided it would be easiest if he allowed a party to guide him in his decisions. He has limited his new party affiliation to the Democratic and Republican parties, since he still believes they have the best chance of implementing changes.
However, since he is currently disillusioned with both parties, he is having trouble deciding with which one to register. Both Democrats and Republicans are welcome to bid.
He believes that since people will bid on slices of toast with images on them, someone who cares enough about their party may find the auction and add another voter to their own ranks.
Because so many people already vote along strict party lines, this is not the illegal practice of buying his vote, but rather a simple way to pick one of the political parties.
