Georgia Republican Leader Choosen YR Man of the Year
Buckhead Young Republican Chairman Jason Shepherd was selected as the 2005 Young Republican National Federation "Man of the Year" at the Young Republican National Convention Award's Banquet on Saturday night.
Upon receiving the award, Shepherd started off his remarks after a long pause with, "This will be hard for many of you to believe, but for once I'm speechless."
The Awards Committee recognized Shepherd for his contributions in both the Young Republican organization, as well as, service to the Republican Party in Georgia. Shepherd recently completed two terms as a Vice-Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party.
Shepherd received the award on a night that saw Georgia win the second most awards of any other state. Georgia took home two recognitions, "Man of the Year" and "Best Website" which was awarded to the Atlanta Young Republicans. The only other state that took home more awards was New York.
The "Woman of the Year" Award went to New York National Committeewoman, Kimberly Morella.
Shepherd said, "Kim was one of the first people I met when I became involved in this organization. Her energy and leadership are an inspiration to everyone who knows her."
Shepherd currently services as the Chairman of the Buckhead Young Republicans, Co-Chairman of the Georgia Federation of Young Republican Clubs and Treasurer of the Sixth Congressional District Republican Committee. He and his wife, Manuela, live in Kennesaw, Ga.
Although called "Man of the Year," the recognition is actually only handed out once every two years at the National Convention.
