January 19, 2005 -- Hear the Issues, a political commentary and analysis website focused on fact rather than opinion, has rapidly climbed the ranks of internet politics. Its creator,
David Pakman, is a junior at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. As a communications and economics student, he has received praise for the website from his peers at the
university, as well as from fellow political pundits across the web. Fox News analyst Alan Colmes, from the television show Hannity and Colmes, as well as Fox News Radio has wished Pakman
and Hear the Issues the best of luck via email, and Hear the Issues was selected as Political Site of the Day by About Politics near the end of December of 2004.
Hear the Issues is best known for its articles regarding the infamous "intelligence of Bush and Kerry voters," as well as other election myths and facts. A recent study, with data
collected entirely by Pakman, compared television and vehicle preferences to political orientation, and determined that Seinfeld is much more preferred among Democrats than Republicans,
while Republicans favor David Letterman to Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. While Republicans are much more likely to drive domestic automobiles, Democrats tend to prefer foreign cars.
A recent feature on the various dialects and moral values of the different regions of the United States has been featured on many political website across the internet, and, like many of
the features on the website, has received as much praise as it has complaints. Pakman says, "As fair as I try to be, there's one thing I can be sure of. I'm going to get emails from
liberals and conservatives alike, and while some will commend me for my fairness and commitment to facts rather than conjecture, the other half will accuse me of blind partisanship." He
doesn't mind it, he says, as it's part of politics, and to not expect it would not be sensible.
