Stitcher Wins Peoples Voice Webby in Mobile News Category



The 13th Annual Webby Awards today announced Stitcher as the winner of the 2009 People'ss Voice Award in the mobile news category.



Thousands of fans cast their votes in April to help Stitcher lock its victory over fellow mobile-news nominees The New York Times, NPR, BBC and The Associated Press.



Stitcher, a free app, streams on-demand news, audio shows and podcasts to mobile devices without syncing or wires. The company works with a wide variety of key content and publishing partners to provide well-rounded, up-to-date content.



Stitcher allows people to make the most of their downtime by connecting listeners to the information they want to hear, when and where they want to hear it, said Stitcher CEO and co-founder Noah Shanok.



Stitcher will be honored at a star-studded ceremony hosted by Saturday Night Live'ss Seth Meyers on June 8th in New York City. On June 9th, fans will be able to watch the ceremony, including Stitcher'ss acceptance speech, at the official Webby Awards YouTube Channel. Hailed as the Internet'ss highest honor by The New York Times, The Webby is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Web sites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile Web sites. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vint Cerf, R/GA'ss Chief Bob Greenberg, Simpson'ss creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington and Harvey Weinstein.
