Logical Awesome, developer of GitHub, the social coding site used by over 80,000 developers, announced today the availability of GitHub:Firewall Install (GitHub:FI). The new on-premise version of GitHub enables developers to install and run an internal GitHub instance behind their corporate firewall. It provides all of the benefits of social coding along with the security of a corporate network.
GitHub has already received widespread acclaim from the developer community:
Killer apps make or break any platform. With GitHub, I think the Git hub just scored one.
- David Heinemeier Hansson, co-founder of 37Signals and creator of Ruby on Rails
GitHub is the best thing to happen to source code since the keyboard.
- Ryan Heneise, founder of Donor Tools and Art of Mission
GitHub is really useful and well put together - talk about getting it right.
- Rahsun McAfee, Ruby on Rails developer
GitHub:FI has been packaged by BitRock to provide a fast, easy way to get the Ruby on Rails application and all of its dependencies up and running. BitRock maintains a website of
similarly packaged stacks at http://bitnami.org.
We are incredibly excited to bring all of the features that make GitHub the premier code host to the enterprise, said PJ Hyett, co-founder and CFO of Logical Awesome. Now even the largest
corporations can move with the transparency and agility of the leanest start-ups by installing their own internal version of GitHub.
GitHub:FI proves two things: the GitHub guys know good technology and good opportunities when they see them; and JRuby is going to power the next generation of Ruby apps. GitHub plus
JRuby is a perfect match, commented Charles Nutter, Co-Lead of the JRuby Project.
In just one year, GitHub has changed the way that tens of thousands of developers work together on code. GitHub:FI will bring all of the benefits of GitHub to a whole new group of
developers who need to work behind a corporate firewall, said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, founder and CTO of BitRock. We'sre happy to have had the opportunity to work with Logical Awesome to
create an easy to use, self-contained package for GitHub:FI that completely automates the installation and configuration process. The stack also proves JRuby is ready for enterprise
deployment of major applications.
