The Orangeburg County Fire District will be the first agency in South Carolina to use a new software tool that provides 9-1-1 call takers from the County of Orangeburg emergency communications center with instant access to life-saving advice in emergencies.
The software, Total Response's174; Computer Aided Call Handling, is manufactured by PowerPhone, Inc., an international provider of 9-1-1 technology and training based in Madison,
Connecticut.
The effective delivery of emergency services starts with the first call for help, said Teddy Wolfe, Operations Officer for Orangeburg County Fire District. Total Response allows us to
raise the standard of care we'sre offering in Orangeburg County--by helping us question callers and collect information in a consistent manner on each emergency call we receive.
Total Response provides Orangeburg County call handlers with pre-arrival instructions for over 75 types of emergencies, including strokes, heart attacks, motor vehicle accidents, rescues,
and structure fires. The software, working alongside H.T.E. CAD400, prompts the dispatcher through a brief standardized script based on the chief complaint given by a caller. The software
also gives the agency a tool to customize protocols to local conditions, and can update responders electronically with information gathered post-dispatch.
PowerPhone has spent many years developing and refining Total Response, said Chris Salafia, President and CEO of PowerPhone. We are very excited that a progressive emergency call center
like the Orangeburg County Fire District will be the first site in South Carolina to use Computer Aided Call Handling software, and we look forward to helping serve their citizens long
into the future.
PowerPhone will be at the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas, booth #1738.
