The primary mission of Manitoba Health'ss Office of Disaster Management (ODM) is to ensure the health sector is capable of providing a coordinated and effective response to the health needs of Manitobans during a disaster. During a disaster, the ODM facilitates the coordination of the health sector'ss activities with other levels of government, agencies and organizations involved in the response. The first phase of the ERMS implementation addresses the communications and collaboration requirements of the ODM staff, Regional Health Authority operational response teams, and executive and senior management teams.

The ability to share information and rapidly collaborate across teams and regions is critical in providing a swift and effective response effort to emergency situations. The ODM was impressed with the ease of use, speed and reliability of the ERMS system. In addition, the system'ss GIS-enabled notification functionality allows the ODM to rapidly target areas that have been impacted by floods, forest fires, pandemic outbreaks and other disasters, enhancing response efforts.
