Village Voice Media Breaks Into Top Ten Most Popular Newspaper Websites in U.S.

For the first time in its company's history, Village Voice Media becomes one of the most visited newspaper websites in the country by cracking the top 10 list according to the November 2007 Nielsen / Netratings.

Village Voice Media's online traffic rose just over 127 percent over the past year (November 2006 to November 2007) according to Nielsen, with total minutes spent on the site rising by 89 percent. Unlike other newspapers, Village Voice Media does not include its classified listings in its overall traffic numbers.

"In 2007, Village Voice Media made a critical transformation," said Bill Jensen, Director of New Media. "Where it was once a collection of 16 weekly papers with web sites, it is now a collection of true daily web publications with fresh content and robust, usable listings."

Additionally, Village Voice Media is now ranked second among free classified sites with its Backpage.com. Backpage.com receives a million postings per month and is second only to Craigslist for most page views among free classified sites in the U.S. according to Comscore Media Metrix (November 2007).
