New Print On Demand Service Delivers Immediate Benefits to NorthAmerican...

The benefits of Print on Demand (POD) were spectacularly demonstrated when Jo Johnson from RMIT University'ss bookshop in Melbourne Australia contacted Central Book Services with an urgent request; a lecturer at the University who had authored and planned a book launch urgently requested 45 copies of the textbook for the launch at short notice. Central Book Services confirmed there was insufficient time to order, process and ship the stock from the US via normal channels, but POD was the only viable option.

Ms Johnson commented, It was an amazing effort, CBS delivered the order within a few days. The authors were so impressed they mentioned it at the launch. We also noted that the paper quality was better than the US version. CBS really came through for us and saved the day! This must surely we the way forward for smart, hard copy textbook delivery.

Stephen Driver from Rowman 's38; Littlefield continued, We had been exploring POD solutions with CBS since the launch of their Central on Demand service which provides local print on demand services to remote publishers such as ourselves. RMIT University Bookshop'ss urgent need gave us the impetus to accelerate this initiative and we are delighted with the result. We are now working aggressively to make all our titles available via POD through CBS and have released our titles from Jason Aronson this week which are immediately available.

CBS has a strong heritage of leadership and continues to show strong innovation, we see this as a defining moment in our Industry and are comfortable to be guided by an organisation that has so impressively anticipated the next generation of Publishing.

Warren Broom, Sales 's38; Marketing Manager of CBS commented, Having worked in publishing for over 30 years, POD is the single most transformational development in the industry and I am delighted to have both championed this initiative and to see it come to fruition.

Petros Demetriou, General Manager CBS reflected, It is gratifying to see the benefits of POD and the enabling technologies so clearly and publicly demonstrated to deliver outstanding service to both our Publisher partners and our customers. Of increasing relevance, is the minimisation of impact on the environment. In an era of increasing carbon accountability this is a significant value-add to the POD proposition.

Richard Siegersma, Executive Chairman of CBS added, We congratulate Rowman 's38; Littlefield for their vision and swift adoption of Print on Demand and we are delighted they have seen an immediate return. The opportunity POD affords the Industry to change the supply chain for the benefit of all stakeholders was fundamental in commencing our investment programme over two years ago in 2007. Our conviction today is that this is the future of profitable publishing. Publishers who implement this model at an early stage will increase market share and profits.
