Pumps Systems Announces Winner and Finalists for First AnnualSuccess...

Pumps 's38; Systems, the magazine for pump users worldwide, is proud to announce the winner and finalists of its inaugural Success Story of the Year Award. The Pumps 's38; Systems Editorial Advisory Board and editorial team determined that the winner and three finalists exemplified the Success Story criteria: A pump success story is a positive account of a pump or pumping system improvement that saves time and/or money for the organization through improved process efficiency or reliability.

The winner of this year'ss award, International Paper (Courtland, Ala.), used root cause failure analysis to determine why a white water pump on a paper machine was showing high vibration levels since it was installed in the late 1970s. Randy Riddell of International Paper nominated the winning Success Story.

The 2009 Success Story finalists also demonstrated superior solutions to problems in the field. Hitachi America Ltd. (Tarrytown, N.Y.) used modeling techniques to help produce a new pump for a water resources pumping plant. James Slocum of Hitachi America Ltd. nominated Hitachi'ss story.

Corrosion Fluid Products Corp. (Farmington Hills, Mich.) produced a pump for a steel mill that could handle the sludge and slurry that had destroyed older pumps. Eric McCahill of Corrosion Fluid Products nominated his company'ss story. The Gorman Rupp Company (Mansfield, Ohio) provided a pump that could combat a lake'ss falling levels and meet specific flow and head pressure requirements. Kari Palmer of RMD Advertising nominated Gorman Rupp'ss Success Story.

The winner and finalists are featured in the July 2009 issue. In its December 2009 issue, Pumps 's38; Systems will feature the winners and finalists of its First Annual Product Innovation Award. Products for consideration must be introduced to the market from January 1, 2008, to August 31, 2009. The deadline for nominations is September 1, 2009.
