Liz Allison Joins Bostons Weekend Thunder NASCAR Radio Show on Sunday June 11
Sometimes there are questions about NASCAR that you need answered but just don's8217;t know where to turn to find the information. No longer will that be a problem, however, thanks to Liz Allison's8217;s new book, A Girl's8217;s Guide to NASCAR. This Sunday, June 11, Allison will guest on AM 1510 's8220;The Zone's8221; during Boston's8217;s only NASCAR radio show Weekend Thunder to discuss her work and the state of auto racing as a whole.
Since the passing of her husband, the popular and talented driver Davey Allison in a helicopter crash at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 1993, Liz has remained active in the motorsports industry. She has worked as a pit reporter for TNT Sports, has hosted Motoring Music City on ESPN 2, and served as NASCAR analyst on WTVF-TV Ch. 5 (CBS) in Nashville. Currently, Allison hosts a popular NASCAR radio program three times a week on 104.5 's8220;The Zone's8221; in Nashville, and is a track announcer and host at Nashville Superspeedway over the course of its four major race weekends each season.
She is also an accomplished author, having previously penned Davey Allison: A Celebration of Life in 1995, Full Circle The Story of Davey Allison in 2001 with David Green and Thomas Pope, and NASCAR Wives: The Women Behind the Sunday Drivers in 2002. She is involved with many charitable organizations as well, and serves as a motivational speaker. She is remarried and lives with her husband Ryan and three children in Nashville.
's8220;Liz Allison could easily have abandoned the sport of NASCAR altogether after the death of her husband, but it is great that she is able to share and spread her
love of the sport despite the great loss she has experienced,'s8221; said Weekend Thunder co-host April Barker. 's8220;She is an inspiration because of her passion for the sport and desire to be involved in it as much as she can.'s8221;
Although Allison's8217;s latest book is written from a woman's8217;s perspective and the title suggests it is written solely for females, both genders can actually benefit from the handy reference guide. The book allows new fans to be brought up to speed on the way the sport works, and at the same time seasoned NASCAR followers are sure to learn something new due to Allison's8217;s years of behind the scenes access. The book details, among many other topics, aspects of how to best enjoy a race, provides links to driver websites, and includes a multitude of random facts, such as how victory lane celebrations work, that the average fan watching on TV would never be exposed to.
The book is 240 pages long with a foreword by Darrell Waltrip and is published by Center Street, a division of the Hachette Book Group USA.
Weekend Thunder is Boston's8217;s only local NASCAR show on the region's8217;s only NASCAR station's8212; WWZN 1510 AM The Zone. Each Sunday at 11 AM hosts Bob MacKinnon, Greg 's8220;Dr. Spooky's8221; Lucas, and April Barker talk racing, take listener calls, conduct an on-air race picking contest, and occasionally welcome guests from the racing world. Troy Germain, meanwhile, hosts the Weekend Thunder post race show following The Zone's8217;s coverage of each NASCAR Nextel Cup event.
