Infineon Invasion Imminent

The Infineon Raceway, in Sonoma California, will play host to the Sim500.com Featured Cup Series on Monday, June 26, 2006. This will be the first road course these drivers have faced during the 36-race season. The series continues to simulate the NASCAR Nextel Cup schedule, in a competition for the most prestigious title in the simracing community this season. The drivers are also competing for a $5,000 prize pool, the only one of it's8217;s kind. Fifteen races into the season, the points battle is heating up and it is still anyone'ss championship to win.

After leading the last two months in the points standings, Bruce Lee Lawson (#16 Sim500.com sponsored Dodge) found some trouble in Michigan, finishing a lap down to the field. Lawson surrendered the points lead to Allen Ebert (#124 Lincoln Mechanical sponsored Chevrolet), who takes a 47 point lead over Lawson into Monday night'ss Infineon race.

Tony West (#67 AKM Racing sponsored Chevrolet) holds on to third place in the points, only 77 points behind Ebert. Michigan Race winner, Walt McGregor (#31 McGregor Racing sponsored Ford) will step aside and have son Jordan taking the mount for Infineon. Walt'ss win at the Michigan International Speedway last week, coupled with Jordan'ss win at Richmond in May, solidified the McGregor family'ss place as the first father/son winners in the Featured Cup Series. McGregor'ss win also moves him into fourth place in the points battle, 97 points behind the leader. Rounding out the top five in the point standings, Steve Marks (#57 Bass Pro Shops sponsored Chevrolet) continues his stealthly charge toward the front, sitting only 127 points from the lead.

Many teams are electing to use alternate drivers, bringing in road course specialists to earn as many points as they can muster. The combination of new drivers to the series and turning to the right, should be quite exciting. With Daytona looming, the next two weeks should really prove to shake things up in the points standings.

Tune in on Monday night, at 9:30 EST, to the www.Sim500.com homepage. As usual, the race will be broadcast live online. Don'st miss one second of the live wheel gripping action.
