Denny Hamlin Plays Games with the Competition at Pocono

It is no secret that real racecar drivers are using simracing to hone their real racing skills. Denny Hamlin won the race from the pole position in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series at Pocono earlier this month. The rookie had never been to the Pocono Raceway before, which has historically been a track where only veterans could bring home a checkered flag. Hamlin attributes his success partly to the time he spends simracing, playing a game called NASCAR Racing 2003, by Papyrus.

Sim500.com is one of the premier simracing websites featuring the NASCAR Racing 2003 game. Sim500.com hosts some of the best simracers in the world. They broadcast their Featured Cup Series races live online every Monday night at 9:30 pm EST. The series features several real late model racecar drivers, plus a few real stock car drivers and crew members. The Featured Cup Series simulates the NASCAR Nextel Cup season. So, if you haven'st had enough racing action when the weekend is over, visit www.Sim500.com on Monday nights for your weekly dose of Virtual Adrenaline.

Last week Jeff Harbaugh (#8 AKM Racing) came home victorious in the series's first road course challenge at Infineon. Zac McDaniel (#48 MRInc.) finished second, needing a good finish to shake off some mid-season woes. Mark DiScenza (#420 Bicycle Playing Cards) came home third driving for car owner Kenneth Shipley, earning the team'ss first top five finish of the season. Nicko Papalexiou (#333 ATI Radeon) finished in fourth representing Brazilian Power Racing, and Walt McGregor (#31 McGregor Racing) continued his charge toward the top of the point standings with another solid top five finish.

McGregor finds himself only 72 points behind series points leader Allen Ebert (#124 Lincoln Mechanical) who finished 12th at Infineon. Bruce Lee Lawson (#16 Sim500.com) fell another spot in the points standings to third. Lawson had an unusual pit road incident on lap two causing him to finish 35th on Monday. After leading two months in the point standings, Lawson finds himself 124 points back. Steve Marks (#57 PMR Racing), the early season points leader, is lurking in fourth only 128 points behind Ebert. Tony West'ss (#67 AKM Racing) dismal 31st place finish at Infineon keeps him in fifth place in the point standings, but he is now trailing Ebert by 142 points.

The Featured Cup Series drivers are heading to Daytona International Speedway for a night race on Monday July 3rd.
