Radio Control Cars Help Drivers and Fans Kick Off Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

RC Driver magazine, a monthly publication covering radio control car hobby news, products and events, will join with Chevy Racing to produce radio control car races as one of the fan-friendly activities on offer for the Chevy Day at the Brickyard promotion Friday, July 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Eleven Chevrolet NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers are scheduled to participate. Radio control car races have been a favorite element of Chevy Day at the Brickyard for fans and drivers since the event first debuted in 2005. Throughout the day on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, fans will also have a chance to sample radio control car racing through test drives offered by RC Driver in conjunction with radio control car manufacturers, Team Associated and Thunder Tiger.

Chevrolet drivers currently scheduled to race RC cars for the event are Casey Mears, Clint Bowyer, JJ Yeley, Kyle Busch, Ward Burton, Richard Childress, Kenny Wallace, Jeff Burton, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Regan Smith. Races featuring these drivers will take place between 9 a.m. and noon on July 27 in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's infield Flag Lot, adjacent to the Bombardier Learjet Pagoda Plaza. A complete schedule of Chevy Day at the Brickyard driver appearances will be available at the event. Drivers will compete with 1/10th scale Team Associated TC4 electric powered racing sedans. After each race, drivers will autograph their RC cars for an online auction to benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Fans are invited to get in on the radio control racing fun themselves in between and after driver appearances. RC Driver's editors and representatives from RC car manufacturers Team Associated and Thunder Tiger will be on hand in the Flag Lot with RC cars for everyone to try. RC car test drive sessions will take place between driver appearances and from noon until 3:30 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. For RC Driver, the aim is to showcase the fun and versatility of the radio control car hobby for race fans, hopefully inspiring an ongoing interest in RC cars and trucks.

"We're very grateful for this opportunity to work with Chevy Racing, Team Associated, Thunder Tiger and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to bring radio control cars to the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard weekend again," said Greg Vogel, RC Driver's executive editor. "This event brings smiles to a lot of faces and we're thrilled to be a part of it. Chevy Day at the Brickyard generates exciting racing at the RC car track. The drivers, as everyone knows, take any form of competition pretty seriously. Of course, since this is a fun event with RC cars, the normal rules are relaxed and the competition is not only intense, it's also pretty creative. The result is a really great opportunity for fans to see many of their favorite drivers racing in a fun and relaxed setting. It is also a great example of how much fun everyone can have with radio control cars."

"When we open up the track for fans to test drive the RC cars themselves, the smiles just keep coming," continued Vogel, "We encourage children visiting the track with their families to take one of the RC cars we provide for a spin around our mini oval to get a taste of RC driving. This is a great way for young fans to feel like a part of the action on race weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We'll also be bringing a few professional radio control car racers with us to demonstrate cool nitro-powered monster trucks, super fast RC nitro-racing sedans and off-road nitro-buggies. Best of all, we will auction the cars raced by the Chevy drivers to benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp, helping bring smiles to the faces of children who are coping with serious illnesses. Proceeds from the auction of RC cars from last year's event totaled over $4,000 and we hope to achieve similar success this year."
