April 21, 2005 -- CoActiv Medical Business Solutions of Ridgefield, CT, a software and systems provider to hospitals and imaging centers, today announced that Medical Imaging Center, P.C. in Bloomfield, CT, selected CoActiv's digital archive and storage solution, EXAM-Vault, which is part of CoActiv's picture archiving and communications system, EXAM-PACS. Medical Imaging Center of Bloomfield, one of the first imaging centers to perform digital mammography in Connecticut, will use the modular CoActiv EXAM-Vault to store and archive digital mammography, ultrasound, CT, nuclear medicine and other exams to securely manage patient radiological images and records throughout the enterprise.
Medical Imaging Center of Bloomfield provides radiology services to the communities surrounding Hartford, CT, and is part of an imaging enterprise network consisting of seven locations. CoActiv has provided digital imaging and IT support to the Bloomfield and Rocky Hill locations for almost two years. CoActiv was able to integrate the CoActiv EXAM-Vault archive and storage solution with Bloomfield's existing digital modalities without any downtime or workflow disruptions. Existing exams from all modalities and new exams were transferred to CoActiv's EXAM-Vault, which automatically and securely archives exams using a unique "Quad-redundant" storage technique that saves every exam in four locations, three of which are on-line and instantly accessible. "We were looking for an affordable and seamless archive solution, and having dealt with CoActiv in the past, we felt comfortable they could get the job done," stated Marie Marciano, Executive Director at Bloomfield. "Paramount in our decision was the price, compatibility and service, and CoActiv made the grade in all three," continued Ms. Marciano.
CoActiv EXAM-Vault stores exams on-line at the local facility and also archives the exams on-line at off-site multiple redundant class A data-centers, as well as on redundant removable media. As soon as an exam is received from any DICOM compliant modality, it is first stored on the local EXAM-Server, and then the exam is instantly, and automatically, sent to a primary data-center archive. Once at the primary datacenter, the exam is then simultaneously mirrored to a redundant on-line archive site. Exams in both sites reside on huge multi-terabyte disk drive RAID arrays with hot spare redundant drives, redundant power supplies, redundant cooling fans and high-speed SCSI data transfer facilities. These arrays are outfitted with automatic remote monitoring, as well as local technical staff monitoring. And finally, all exams are permanently archived to duplicate digital removable media, with one copy stored in a secure vault and the other forwarded to the client site.
"CoActiv is positioned to handle large digital mammography exams because of our efficient, cost effective structure that actually reduces the total cost of storage as exam volume increases," said Ed Heere, President of CoActiv Medical Business Solutions. "And CoActiv's on-line storage solution expedites the recall of prior digital mammography exams for comparisons and transmission to referring physicians. This is all done by using our large bandwidth resources rather than using a client facility's often expensive and usually limited bandwidth."
CoActiv also provides Bloomfield with a CD burning solution, CoActiv EXAM-Filer, which creates self-contained, study CDs accessible from any CD or DVD equipped Windows PC. The EXAM-Filer can receive directly from multiple DICOM modalities, has robotic capabilities and each exam-CD prominently highlights the imaging facility's name, logo, address, phone, website address etc., for identification and marketing purposes.
