March 3, 2005 -- CoActiv Medical Business Solutions of Ridgefield, CT, a software and systems provider to hospitals and imaging centers, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved CoActiv EXAM-PACS, a picture archiving and communications system, for primary reads and archival storage of digital mammography exams. CoActiv's strategic partnership with Barco's line of 5 MP flat panel display systems streamlined the FDA approval for digital mammography diagnostic reads.
CoActiv EXAM-PACS acquires and archives digital mammography images using the lossless compression standards required by FDA guidelines, and allows radiologists and referring physicians to work in a fast, on-demand and virtually instantaneous recall environment. CoActiv's EXAM-Viewer software, along with Barco's 5 MP Medical Flat Grayscale Display for digital mammography, provide the high resolution, contrast, and calibration stability required for digital mammography reads. Since EXAM-PACS is a web-based, on-line PACS solution, the retrieval time for large digital mammography exams is greatly reduced for comparison viewing.
"Managing Digital Mammography exams can be a daunting task from an IT standpoint because of the size of each image, however, with CoActiv's EXAM-Vault on-line storage and archiving architecture, we provide a solution that is designed to increase exam archiving capacity and speed retrieval time, while actually lowering the price of storage as a facility increases volume," said Ed Heere, President of CoActiv Medical Business Solutions. "Without the encumbrances of the outdated legacy archive technology, we have essentially re-defined the art of On-Line PACS archiving with our EXAM-Vault solution. Our FDA approval for mammography reads positions CoActiv EXAM-PACS as a full image management solution for hospitals or imaging centers specializing in breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment."
CoActiv EXAM-PACS is a full solution PACS that is priced at about one-third the price of most other PACS providers. CoActiv EXAM-PACS modules can also be integrated with existing PACS products or directly with existing DICOM modalities providing the following stand-alone solutions:
CoActiv EXAM-Vault: an on-line and "quad-redundant," HIPAA-compliant archive solution that saves exams in 4 locations, 3 of which are on-line, for only pennies per exam.
CoActiv EXAM-Filer: a CD burning solution that creates self-contained, study CDs accessible from virtually any CD or DVD equipped Windows PC. The EXAM-Filer can receive directly from multiple DICOM modalities, or an existing PACS, and each EXAM-CD prominently highlights the imaging facility's logo, name and contact information.
EXAM-Sender: an innovative, patent pending, web-based application that instantly transmits exams, voice clips, reports and other information - automatically, securely and in background mode - to referring doctors.
